Tanya McCarthy, M.Ed., BCBA

Director, Behavior Analyst

Tanya is a board-certified behavior analyst (BCBA) and is on the registered autism service providers (RASP) list category A for British Columbia. She obtained her Master’s degree in Special Education with a focus on autism and applied behavior analysis from the University of British Columbia. Tanya has been working with individuals with diverse needs in various capacities for over 20 years. She has provided support for individuals from 18 months- 21 years. Tanya has a passion for working with children to help them reach their full potential and improving the quality of life of both the children and their families. Tanya is a certified PEERS for preschoolers provider and she has completed the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) introductory course. She specializes in early intervention, helping young children to improve skills such as communication, social skills, pre-academic/ academic skills and life skills (dressing, toilet training, and feeding). Tanya believes in promoting independence in these areas. She also believes in empowering children with self-advocacy and self-regulation skills. Tanya values full inclusion for everyone and enjoys collaborating with school teams to discuss the most effective strategies for individual support in the classroom. Tanya has had a passion for reading since she was young, and that is one of her favorite things to teach. In her free time, Tanya enjoys spending time with her family and her dogs, travelling and photography.

Maryam Aliyar, M.Sc., BCBA

Junior Consultant

Maryam has a Master’s in Applied Behavior Analysis from St. Cloud University. She has recently completed a 2000 hour internship and passed the BCBA exam. As part of the internship Maryam has been working with children with different abilities from 2 years to high school age, in school, preschool, home and therapy centers, on different programs including communication, leisure skills, grooming and toileting and academics. Maryam has two children on the spectrum and is familiar with hardships that might come with getting a diagnosis and getting therapy services and is passionate about helping families in similar position.

Maryam likes reading (mostly sci-fi and fantasy books), listening and playing music.

Sarah Chandler, BA

Behavior interventionist, intern

Sarah has been working with children in a variety of settings for 12 years, and as a Behaviour Interventionist for 8 years. Sarah has also been an Education Assistant in the Burnaby School District and Career Coach – Disability Specialist for Work BC, where she gained experience supporting many different individuals with diverse abilities. Sarah is currently completing the Disability and Applied Behaviour Analysis advanced Certificate at Douglas College. Sarah believes in helping children advocate for themselves, making learning fun and engaging, and helping children be included in their everyday environments. In her free time, Sarah enjoys visiting Vancouver Island, spending time with her family and dog, and playing her guitar.
